Curious about what permanent jewellery is and why everyone’s talking about being “zapped”? Here’s your friendly guide to welded, clasp‑free bracelets, anklets, necklaces and rings, how they work, how long they last and where to get them in Shropshire & Powys.
What is permanent jewellery?
Permanent jewellery (also called welded jewellery or a forever bracelet) is a fine chain that’s custom‑fitted to you and then micro‑welded closed, so there’s no clasp to fiddle with. The result is a seamless, minimal piece you can wear every day. At Lae Jewellery, we fit bracelets, anklets, necklaces and rings using quality sterling silver and gold‑filled chains, with the option to add charms for a touch of colour.
Why is everyone getting “zapped”?
- Sentimental: a constant reminder of a person, milestone or moment.
- Effortless: clasp‑free, tangle‑free and designed for daily wear.
- Made‑to‑measure: sized to sit comfortably and flatter your wrist/ankle/neck.
- Fun experience: bring a friend, choose chains together and enjoy the mini “zap” moment.
Ready to try it? Book your session or see availability on our Permanent Jewellery page. We serve Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Oswestry, Telford, Newport and across Powys & Shropshire.
What can you get welded?
- Bracelets - the classic, subtle forever piece (stack them over time).
- Anklets - effortless summer vibes that look great with trainers or sandals.
- Necklaces - delicate, everyday layers you’ll forget you’re wearing.
- Rings - tiny bonded bands for a minimalist, modern look.

How the welding process works
- Choose your chain: sterling silver or gold‑filled, with optional gemstone or bead accents.
- Custom fit: we size it to your perfect drape and trim to length.
- The “zap”: a quick, precise micro‑weld closes the loop, no heat on your skin.
- Shine & go: a quick polish and you’re out the door wearing your new favourite piece.
Is it safe, and does it hurt?
The weld is brief and targeted to the metal only. We shield the area so there’s no heat on skin. Most people say it’s over before they know it. If you have specific medical conditions (e.g. pacemaker), please get in touch before booking.
Can you remove permanent jewellery?
Yes. Although it’s called “permanent”, you can remove it with a small, careful snip at the welded ring or a single link (then keep the chain to re‑weld later). If you ever need it off for a medical procedure or just fancy a change, we can reattach or adjust at a later appointment.
How long does it last?
With quality metals and normal wear, your piece can last many months or years. As with any fine chain, a hard snag could break a link, in which case we’ll advise on repair or re‑welding. For shine over time, see our Jewellery Care tips.
Best metals & styles
- Sterling silver: bright, versatile and great value; polish occasionally to keep it gleaming.
- Gold‑filled: a thick bonded layer of gold for a luxe look and excellent everyday durability.
- Details: add small charms for a personalised finish.

Quick FAQs
Does it hurt?
No, the micro‑weld is quick and focused on the metal, not your skin.
Can I shower, sleep and work out in it?
Yes. Our sterling silver and gold‑filled chains are chosen for everyday wear. Rinse after pools/hot tubs and polish silver occasionally.
What if it breaks?
It’s rare, but if a link snags and snaps, keep the chain safe and contact us about re‑welding or repair options.
Is there an age limit?
We generally weld for ages 10+ with a parent/guardian present. If unsure, message us.
