About Baby Ollie’s story
At just two weeks old, Baby Ollie was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect known as pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA-VSD MAPCAs). This means his heart and lung arteries did not develop normally, making it almost impossible for blood to reach his lungs. Despite all this, Ollie is described by his family as “the happiest, cheekiest little boy” who loves bubbles, ducks and making everyone laugh.
His rare heart condition
Without surgery, Ollie’s condition is life-limiting. By 10 months old, doctors warned his family that he might not live to see his second birthday without intervention. Multiple hospitals across the UK and Europe reviewed his case, but all gave the same heartbreaking answer – that surgery was too complex to attempt. His family refused to give up and began searching the world for a specialist who could offer hope.
A new hope at Stanford Children’s Hospital
After months of searching, a breakthrough came when Stanford Children’s Hospital in California reviewed Ollie’s medical records and offered to help. Their surgeons believe Ollie is operable and have planned a two-stage surgery to reconstruct and repair his heart. The total cost for the operations, travel and medical care is an estimated £1.5 million – far beyond what his family can afford alone. Ollie’s mum, Jasmin, launched a GoFundMe to give her son a chance at life.
The fundraising journey
The campaign, called Help Save Baby Ollie’s Heart, has captured hearts across the UK. More than 51,000 people have donated, and the total has passed £1 million thanks to community support and even a generous contribution from Ryan Reynolds. The family now hopes to reach the remaining amount soon so Ollie’s first operation can be scheduled at Stanford.
