Personalised Anklets: How to Design One That Is Truly Yours

Personalised Anklets: How to Design One That Is Truly Yours

Personalised anklets are one of my favourite things to make. There is something about a piece of jewellery on your ankle that feels carefree and summery, and when you have chosen every bead yourself, it carries a little extra meaning. I have been handcrafting anklets in sterling silver 925 and 14ct gold filled from my studio in Four Crosses, Powys since I started Lae Jewellery in 2020.

Why a Personalised Anklet?

An anklet is personal by nature. It sits close to the skin, it moves with you, and most people will never notice it unless you choose to show them. Adding your own choice of gemstones, charms, and metals makes it uniquely yours.

Personalised anklets make wonderful gifts too: birthstone anklets for birthdays, matching pairs for best friends, or a charm anklet for a holiday memory.

How to Design Your Own Anklet

My personalised anklet builder lets you build a custom piece from scratch:

  1. Choose your beads: pick from over 30 genuine gemstones, freshwater pearls, and sterling silver spacers.
  2. Pick your metal: sterling silver or gold filled.
  3. Add charms: hearts, evil eyes, initials, stars, and more.
  4. Select your size: I will adjust the length to fit your ankle perfectly.

Styling Ideas

  • Beach and summer: turquoise, aquamarine, and sea glass tones look beautiful against tanned skin.
  • Layered look: wear a dainty chain anklet alongside a beaded design for contrast.
  • Matching set: design a bracelet and anklet in the same gemstones for a coordinated look.
  • Evil eye charm: a protective symbol that adds character to any anklet.
  • Boho style: mix turquoise, coral, and gold filled beads for a warm, earthy feel.

Best Gemstones for Anklets

Some stones work especially well in anklets because of how their colour catches the light against skin:

  • Turquoise: vivid blue-green, perfect for summer.
  • Rose quartz: soft pink, flattering on every skin tone.
  • Lapis lazuli: deep blue with gold flecks, striking and bold.
  • Morganite: pale peach-pink, subtle and elegant.
  • Birthstones: choose your own or a loved one's birth month stone for added meaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a sterling silver anklet tarnish?

Sterling silver can tarnish over time, especially with exposure to moisture and chemicals. Remove your anklet before swimming in chlorinated pools and avoid contact with perfume and sunscreen. A silver polishing cloth (included with every order) will restore the shine in seconds. For more on this, read about why sterling silver can turn your finger green.

Can I wear my anklet in water?

Sterling silver is fine in fresh water and the sea for short periods. Gold filled is even more resistant and can handle daily water exposure. Just avoid chlorine and harsh chemicals.

How do I know what size to order?

Measure around your ankle with a piece of string, then add about 1cm for a comfortable fit. If you are unsure, include a note with your order and I will adjust it for you.
